Kolkata: The
Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to challenge an order of a Calcutta High Court single bench that set aside the appointment of govt college teachers as presiding officers during the Bengal assembly election on April 23 and 29.
Bengal chief election officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal said the EC would move an appeal before a division bench against the order passed on Friday by the Calcutta High Court bench of Justice Krishna Rao.

An official said that the EC needed around 4.1 lakh polling officials to conduct the polls and said that since the duty roster had been prepared, it would be difficult to induct staff from the reserve bench.
"We will plead again to the court about the shortage of staff, which is a teething problem," the official said.
