KOLKATA: The detective department of Bidhannagar police have busted a gang that smuggles illegal drugs into the city from Manipur and have seized 40 kgs of marijuana from them in an overnight raid last week.Police said, the gang used to supply the marijuana stashed in heaps of luggage in long distance trains from north Bengal. Acting on a tip off, a team of detective department officers, dressed as tourists on a Sealdah bound train from North Bengal nabbed one of the smugglers and a receiver in the early hours of February 25.“The moment the trains used to cross Dum Dum station, the receivers waiting on the road used to show torch light at a boggy on the rear end of the train. That was the signal when the man on the train would roll the stack of drugs from the train to the slope down below when the train would move at a slower pace. A receiver would collect the same and transport it in an auto rickshaw. Our team of officers caught the entire team in action and arrested one man on train and a receiver,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar city police. The two men were identified as Ranjit Biswas and Ashok Mondal who are currently in judicial custody as cops said search is on, to nab more members of the gang.
