Kolkata to take part in Pride March this December
The celebrated Pride March is a big phenomenon in every Indian city, including Kolkata. But this year, the march didn't take place in Kolkata in the Pride month June. Though many cities went ahead with the usual June celebrations, including the Pride March, Kolkata refrained from the march. When asked why did it not take place in the Pride month, Anindya Hazra from a gender trust in the city that is one of the organising bodies of the march, said, "After missing out on the march during the two pandemic years, we are looking forward to it. However, it has been shifted to December now. So, there was no Pride March in Kolkata in June. We believe that the march can happen anytime, all-year round, and should not be limited to just a month. We will start planning for it in September and it is going to be special since 2020 and 2021 saw no such celebrations. "
Meanwhile, other Indian cities like Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Delhi and Lucknow celebrated the Pride Month with colourful Pride Walks in the respective cities. Anindya thinks come December and Kolkata will also be able to feel the same joy in a more conducive weather condition. "We feel, June is too hot for people in India to walk on roads. It is definitely not a pleasant summer like in the West. Also, queer community events take place around November-December around the globe and we want to match up to that. And in Delhi, we saw people falling ill during the walk," he said.

Lol so you think because something bad has happened elsewhere, we LGBT people should give up on our right to celebrate ourselves? Pride marches are as much a protest as it’s a walk of pride. The points you mentioned aren’t mutually exclusiveRead allPost comment
