HS edu board president, secy get to stay for now
Bengal: West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) president Partha Karmakar and secretary Priyadarshini Mullick have been allowed to remain in office until the higher secondary examination results are announced, making them the only exception to Bengal govt's crackdown on post-retirement reappointments of bureaucrats and senior officials. On Tuesday, state govt terminated 243 retired officers who had been reappointed across departments.According to sources, Karmakar and Mullick sought clarification from the school education department after govt issued an order for the immediate removal of nominated members. They were later instructed to continue until the HS results were declared, after which their positions would be reviewed. The HS results are scheduled to be announced on Thursday. Officials said removing the president and secretary before that could create serious problems. Appointing new signatories would delay college admissions, they said.
