Final phase of total lunar eclipse to be visible on Tue

Kolkata: Residents in the city will witness the final phase of a total lunar eclipse on Tuesday. Unlike most eclipses, this one will be visible. The moon will emerge from the horizon. "According to astronomical predictions, the moon rise in Kolkata is scheduled for 5.39 pm. The eclipse will still be in progress during that time, allowing residents to see the moon emerge from the horizon," said Bipash Das Gupta, scientific officer, MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research.
The totality phase will be followed by the umbral phase, which will continue until 6.48 pm. This will allow viewers in Kolkata to witness the rare celestial event for about an hour and nine minutes as the moon will gradually return to its usual brightness.Astronomers say this makes the event especially noteworthy for the eastern part of the country. The beginning of the eclipse will not be visible from India. But the concluding phases can be seen in most of the countries, barring extreme western regions.The eclipse will be visible in large parts of North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific region.This celestial event coincides with the full moon in the Leo constellation. Traditionally, this is known as the worm moon. This also marks the transition from winter to spring in many cultures.If the weather permits, this spectacular event will be best viewed from open spaces shortly after sunset.
