Cops probe detective training institute theft
Kolkata:Unidentified miscreants targeted the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) and the Central Finger Print Bureau (CFPB) under the ministry of home affairs, decamping with copper pipes from multiple air-conditioning units. The incident, which took place at the govt premises located at 30 Gorachand Road in Park Circus, has resulted in significant damage to public property and disrupted operations at the federal offices, a formal complaint said.According to cops, the theft occurred during the intervening night of May 6 and May 7, 2026, within the Bureau of Police Research & Development complex. The matter came to light on the morning of May 7 when officials noticed that the air-conditioning systems were non-functional.A subsequent inspection of the building's exterior and the first-floor premises occupied by the CFPB revealed that the copper connecting pipes for four outdoor AC units had been systematically severed and removed.Sanat Kumar Dutta, vice-principal of CDTI Kolkata, lodged a formal complaint with the local police, noting that the removal of the pipes not only caused a direct financial loss to the govt but also damaged the internal mechanisms of the AC units.
