West Bengal polls: Civic volunteer attacked after objecting to remarks against Mamata Banerjee in Baranagar
Kolkata: A civic volunteer, Gobinda Hari (38), was allegedly assaulted by a group of BJP supporters in Baranagar on Monday after he protested against derogatory remarks targeting CM Mamata Banerjee. Hari sustained fractures and was hospitalised. Police registered a case and initiated a probe.According to sources, the incident took place in front of Bonorini Housing complex at ward 15 of Baranagar Municipality, where Hari was on duty. It was alleged that BJP worker Sani Dey and his aides made objectionable comments about the CM while passing by. When the civic volunteer protested, they allegedly attacked him.TMC accused BJP workers of taking the law into their own hands and targeting on-duty personnel. Baranagar councillor Biswajit Bardan said, "If someone protested against the derogatory remarks targeting the CM, how could they assault and break someone's hand?" BJP's Baranagar candidate Sajal Ghosh denied the allegations, calling them politically motivated and fabricated. Sani Dey, the accused BJP worker, claimed, "He needs to explain how he was attacked. I myself was assaulted by 5-7 people."
