Kolkata: Apeejay Shipping, part of the Apeejay Surendra Group, has acquired a 3,000-tonne multi-purpose container vessel equipped with two 60T cranes to launch a dedicated shipping service to the Andaman Islands. The vessel, APJ Karan 2, is scheduled to make its maiden voyage to Port Blair in March.
The service will operate with regular scheduled departures from Kolkata, catering to a broad spectrum of cargo requirements. The initiative aims to strengthen maritime connectivity and enhance the logistics infrastructure for the region.
Last Sept, Apeejay Shipping announced the acquisition of two Kamsarmax bulk carriers — APJ Priya 2 and APJ Priti 2. These refurbished vessels, built in Japan and equipped with advanced scrubber technology, were inducted into the company's operations in July and Aug 2025.
