Yellow alert for heat in 10 Kerala districts
Kochi: The state continues to reel under hot and humid temperatures with a two to three-degree rise above normal in many places. IMD has issued a yellow alert for maximum temperatures for 10 districts till Tuesday. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be around 38°C at isolated places in Kollam, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kasaragod. Mercury levels will be around 37°C in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur. The hot and dry weather will continue in Pathanamthitta with temperatures likely around 36°C. On Sunday, Palakkad recorded the highest temperature of 39.2°C, which was 2.5 degrees above its normal. Places like Punalur and Vellanikkara recorded high temperatures of 37.4°C and 36.7°C respectively, with high humidity of 73%, giving it a feel heat of 45°C. Kochi city and outskirts like Cial Kochi also recorded high humidity of 70-73%, with the latter recording a high of 36°C while the city areas recorded around 32.6°C. Kannur airport, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram city recorded 35-36°C. According to 24-hour weather recorded on Sunday morning, rain occurred at one or two places in Kerala. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kerala on Monday.
