Kochi: Thrikkakara municipality council approved a Rs 22-crore housing project titled Saphalyam to provide free apartments to 78 economically vulnerable families who currently own neither land nor homes within the municipality limits.Municipality vice-chairperson Shereena Shukoor said that they already received a detailed project report prepared by a Thrissur-based consultancy. The apartment complex is proposed on 50 cents at Vanachira, which the municipality originally purchased for waste management purposes. During the 2010–2015 period, a revised resolution was passed, following which permission was sought from state govt to repurpose the plot for residential construction. Approval was subsequently granted. However, progress hinges on land conversion, as the site is currently classified as wetland. Shukkoor said the municipality is awaiting necessary clearances and hopes that govt would expedite the process to enable construction activities to begin at the earliest.
According to municipality officials, once completed, Saphalyam is expected to significantly improve living conditions for some of Thrikkakara's most disadvantaged residents, offering secure housing and basic amenities under a single, purpose-built residential complex.
