Man arrested with 51kg of ganja in Perumbavoor
Kochi: In a major drug seizure, 51kg of ganja was seized in Perumbavoor Vazhakulam on Thursday.Rubel Mulla, 25, of Murshidabad, West Bengal, was arrested in connection with the seizure by Thadiyittaparambu police. Based on a tip-off received by police, the contraband was found in a house in Vazhakulam TMJ Nagar.
Officers said ganja was stored in bags, with some even piled on the floor. An electronic scale was also seized from the location. The house was rented under the pretence of providing accommodation for migrant workers.Police said that the accused arrived at the location at night, misleading others by saying people were away at work during the day.Excise arrests heroin dealers: Excise arrested two key accused involved in heroin trafficking into the district.Excise department conducted a raid at 10pm on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of Assam natives Rashidul Islam, 20, of Morigaon district and Nazeeruddin, 25, of Sonitpur district.They were caught by North Paravur excise team while allegedly transporting 11.63g of heroin and 20g of ganja for sale. A digital scale, plastic containers for transporting heroin and money earned from sales were seized from them, said excise.According to officials, they were key members of a drug trafficking network from Assam to Aluva and Paravur. Excise department stated that several members of this network are under surveillance.Man held for fraud: A Thrissur native was on Wednesday arrested for defrauding money by promising jobs in the UK.Athani Maliyekkal Benny, 57, was arrested by Piravom police for allegedly swindling Rs 12 lakh from a young man from Piravom. The incident occurred in March 2023.According to police, Benny was in hiding following his involvement in the case. He was nabbed from his wife's house in Wadakkanchery after a scientific investigation. It is suspected that more people are involved in the case. Benny is implicated in 13 cases across Kannur and Thrissur districts, said police.
