Kerela elections: Religious & social leaders cast votes, express views on who will win poll
KOTTAYAM: Prominent religious heads and leaders of social organisations cast their votes on Thursday. NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair who cast his vote at St Theresa's School, Vazhappally, Changanassery stated that while he is not expressing an opinion on whether a change in govt is needed, democracy should prevail.
"Democracy must succeed, and every vote should be cast after considering the current circumstances. We are not saying whether there should be a change in govt or not. Whoever wins should come to power. Democracy must succeed, and people should adopt a stance accordingly," he said. "The culprits in Sabarimala gold theft case should be punished. I believe govt and the court are investigating it properly. Let that proceed," said Nair. When asked if there is a wave in favour of any party in the election, he said, "I am not saying anything about that right now."
Enlightened people will make decision: Malankara Church head
Malankara Church head Baselios Marthoma Mathews III catholicos said the decision on whether there should be a change in governance or a continuation in Kerala should be made by the enlightened people. People are aware of matters related to FCRA, he added. In the elections, the people are the kings, and the candidates are humble servants. He added that the people, as kings, will make the decision, he said. He cast his vote at Muttambalam Municipal Library.
I want Pinarayi to come to power again, says Vellappally Natesan
SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said "It is my personal desire and interest for Pinarayi Vijayan to come to power again." He was speaking to media after casting his vote at Kanichukulangara Devaswom Vocational Higher Secondary School. "Let's wait and see what the people's verdict is. Three or four people in Congress are waiting to become CM. Those are individual aspirations. Many, including V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala, may have such desires. I have no opinion on who should become the CM," he said.
