IDUKKI: A car was washed away in the torrential rains while it was passing through the Moonnunkavayal Bridge near Kanjar in Thopdupuhza in Idukki.

Two bodies were found and identified as

Koothattukulam

residents

Nikhil

and

Nima

.

According to reports, the car was washed away when water flooded the bridge and it got blocked near the protection wall of the river.

Meanwhile, the water level in Idukki reservoir rose over 2 ft in a single day, which is 88 percent of the storage level. The full reservoir level is 2,403.50 ft. The water level crossed the blue alert level on Friday.

The shutters of the

Kallarkutty

and Lower Periyar dams were opened. The district administration has banned kayaking and other tourism related activities.The traffic on the Gap Road stretch of Kochi-Dhanushkodi national highway was banned.

A landslide was also reported from Pullupara near Kuttikkanam on Kollam-Theni national highway.
