Palakkad: A family in Vaniyamkulam in Palakkad got back their gold chain worth Rs 2.5 lakh after workers of Haritha Karma Sena (HKS) recovered it from a pile of waste, an act that has drawn public appreciation.
The incident occurred at Madhuryam, the residence of Madhavan in Thrangali in Vaniyamkulam grama panchayat. The two-sovereign gold chain had accidentally been discarded along with household waste. It was found by HKS worker Priya while segregating plastic waste collected from the house.
Priya noticed the chain inside a small container in the waste bag and immediately informed her colleagues Sheeja and Vijayalakshmi. The trio promptly contacted the family and handed over the ornament without delay.
The chain belonged to Madhavan's daughter-in-law Aswathi and had been missing for the past few days, causing distress to the family. Madhavan's wife Komalam said they were relieved and grateful upon getting it back.
Vaniyamkulam grama panchayat president Sreeja K visited the house and commended the HKS workers for their exemplary honesty. The panchayat also honoured Priya, Sheeja and Vijayalakshmi in recognition of their action.
