Four killed, 1 injured in car-truck collision in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: Four persons were killed and one sustained serious injuries after a truck rammed a car at Ramanattukara in the early hours of Saturday.The deceased were identified as Vimal Kumar (37), Ajeesh (31), Shyam Lal (33) and Dinil (31). According to police, the accident took place around 3.30am in front of We Park in Modern Bazar, Ramanattukara. The group of friends were travelling towards Kozhikode from Ramnattukara when the accident took place.
The speeding truck came from the opposite direction and crashed head-on with the car. The smaller vehicle was mangled in the impact of the collision. Fire force officials and rescuers had to cut open the car to get the victims out of the vehicle. While all others were brought dead to a nearby hospital, Shyam Lal succumbed to his injuries around 7.00am on Saturday. Another person identified as Dijin sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, police said.The truck driver sustained minor injuries. Nallalam police registered an FIR and began an investigation to identify the exact cause of the accident. The FIR was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said that the bodies of the victims were handed over to their kin after an autopsy.
