Fans cheer for actor, disrupt CM Vijayan’s speech

PALAKKAD

: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan cut short his inaugural address at the opening of a hospital here on Sunday, following the clamour by a bunch of Mohanlal fans. The chief minister and the actor shared the dais during the inauguration of Avitis Institute of Medical Sciences at Nemmara here.

The fans started cheering the actor as soon as he entered along with the CM. The uproar continued even as the

started addressing the gathering. A visibly irked Vijayan said, “Those who are cheering the actor lives in their own world. They do not know any other things. This may be because they are immature. But they are not doing a service to the actor either.”

Before concluding his speech, the chief minister said, “Considering the progress the state has achieved, it does not have enough specialized medical facilities. We (the government) have been requesting the central government to sanction an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) for long, to meet the increasing demands in Kerala.”

He added that he had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday and urged him to accord the sanction for AIIMS in Kerala. “The Central government is expected to consider Kerala’s demand,” the CM said.

He also added that the opening of Avitis Institute of Medical Sciences with super specialty departments in cardiology,

neurology

, nephrology,

gastroenteritis

, renal science etc, was a big step forward in the health sector in the state.

The function was presided over by assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan.

Health minister K.K. Shailaja, agriculture minister V S Sunil Kumar, water resources minister K Krishnankutty, MLA s O Rajagopal and K Babu, MPs V K Sreekantan and Remya Haridas, UAE Exchange founder chairman B R Shetty among others were present.
