Family of 14-year-old boy alleges medical negligence at Konni medical college

Kottayam: The family of a 14-year-old boy lodged a complaint alleging medical negligence at Konni govt medical college hospital (MCH). They claimed that while the boy received treatment for his fractured arm for two-and-a-half months, the arm eventually got deformed. The boy, Tanseer S, son of residents from Aruvappulam in Konni, faced severe health issues as a result of this, the family alleged. They filed a complaint with Konni police alleging medical negligence. According to the family, the head of orthopaedics treated Tanseer, and surgery was performed on his broken arm in Nov last year,followed by a plaster cast.
However, when the plaster was removed on Feb 2, the arm was found to be deformed. Subsequently, the family transferred the boy to a private hospital, where another surgery was necessitated. Tanseer's father Shahajaham said that the corrective surgery was successfully done at the private hospital on Feb 17. Meanwhile, the MCH superintendent denied any medical negligence. The superintendent stated that such occurrences can happen in some paediatric cases and that there were no issues in the X-rays taken during treatment. "Assurance was given that the grafting procedure done at the private hospital could also have been performed at the medical college. However, the family chose to go to the private hospital on their own," the superintendent added.
