Kerala polls: Congress slams CM Pinarayi Vijayan for indecent remarks on G Sudhakaran
KANNUR: KPCC president Sunny Joseph slammed chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for using indecent words while targeting political opponents. He was referring to Vijayan's description of the action by communist veteran G Sudhakaran, who parted ways with CPM to contest the assembly polls as a UDF-backed independent from Ambalappuzha constituency. In an interview with a television channel, Vijayan described Sudhakaran's actions as "meanness" and "cheating".
Joseph told reporters in Kannur that Vijayan had used such words in the past as well. "He called Thamarassery bishop nikrishtajeevi (wretched creature) and N K Premachandran paranaari. I have to recall the names he used because it's another election time and my workers are poking me from behind, urging me to say it. If he had used those names, what all he would call Sudhakaran," Joseph asked.
‘Cherian lauds other Sudhakaran'
Culture minister Saji Cherian sharply criticised G Sudhakaran.
Addressing LDF candidate P Prasad's election convention in Cherthala on Friday, Cherian said it was not right (on the part of Sudhakaran) to betray the party and added that if someone claimed that Congress would win in Kerala by siding with those who have betrayed, it would not happen in Alappuzha.
Cherian lauded K Sudhakaran of Congress saying he did not betray his party but upheld political ethics.
"Many have said that CPM and LDF are going to end in Alappuzha. No one from our party will leave. That is the tradition of Alappuzha," said Cherian.
He strongly criticised Congress, stating that it was time to dissolve the party and that ordinary workers in that party who toil hard had no value. He mocked that those who draw water and cut wood as being undervalued. He sarcastically remarked that a miracle happened in Alappuzha too, referring to Sudhakaran parting ways with CPM. He mentioned that even if Cherian left the party tomorrow, not even his wife would go with him. "My wife asked me not to assume she would follow as someone else's wife did. She has party membership and is with the party," he added.
Joseph targets Shailaja
Sunny Joseph also targeted his opponent in Peravoor, K K Shailaja. "When Shailaja contested against me for the first time, I had no big image, but I won because I work with the common people. She contested the Lok Sabha elections with the so-called image in Vatakara but lost by a huge margin. When she tasted defeat, her party promoted her to its central committee. Now when she loses again, they may elevate her to politburo," Joseph said.
Shailaja said that it was natural to lose and win elections. "It is a very big deal to reach the politburo. From branch level, I have worked in the party at various levels including area committee and district committee, before working in the state committee and central committee. I didn't reach the central committee after losing an election, but it was a natural progression," she said.
Shailaja said that she was contesting with pride in Peravoor. She said that communists contest not just from sure seats and added that LDF would surely wrest the seat this time.
