Vendor beaten to death for refusing to give free paani puri

Kanpur: A local goon and his aides allegedly beat up a paani puri vendor to death as he refused to give them paani puri for free.The incident took place in the Chakeri area of Kanpur on Sunday evening. An FIR is yet to be filed in the case. Prem Chandra, 40, a resident of Kanpur Dehat, lived in Chakeri with his wife and children.On Sunday evening, while he was returning home, a local goon, Dheeraj and his four aides, stopped him and asked him to give them paani puri for free.When Prem refused, the goon and his aides started abusing him and later beat him up badly. Locals intervened and rescued him. However, at night, Prem’s condition deteriorated and his family took him to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. Police on Monday sent the body for a postmortem examination. Chakeri police station inspector Ashok Kumar Dubey said that the incident is being investigated. “No visible injury marks were found on his body. The body has been sent for postmortem. Action will be taken on the basis of the autopsy report and other necessary findings,” he said.
