Kanpur: Two men riding a motorcycle died on the spot after a speeding truck collided with them on Friday near Korea turn on the highway in the Sajeti police station area of Ghatampur in Kanpur, police said.
The driver abandoned the truck on the roadside and fled after the accident. The truck was taken into custody and police teams were engaged in searching for the driver.
The deceased were identified as Raj Kumar (35) and Ram Shankar (36), residents of Bangla Paras in the Ghatampur police station area. Police reached the spot after receiving information, took possession of the bodies and launched an investigation.
According to information, the truck, coming from the opposite direction, struck the motorcycle near Korea turn as the men were coming from the Ghatampur side. The collision was so severe that the motorcycle was reduced to pieces.
A large crowd of passersby gathered on the highway after the accident and traffic was disrupted.
Police said the bodies were being sent for post-mortem and family members were informed. Further action would be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report and a written complaint.
