Three sentenced to life imprisionment for murder
Kanpur: Three individuals were convicted by additional district and sessions judge court number one Rajesh Choudhary on Friday for committing murder and were sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000 each.
The convicted persons were identified as Dhaniram Gautam, his brother Maniram Gautam and Manju Gautam, all residents of Vinayakpur under Kalyanpur police station.
According to additional district government counsel Pradeep Kumar Sahu complainant Monu, a resident of Kachchi Basti Sharda nagar, lodged a report stating he had discovered a corpse in front of Mohit tent house on Nov 26, 2021. During investigation, the deceased was identified as Rahul alias Anuj.
Rahul alias Anuj, Dhaniram Gautam, Maniram Gautam and Manju Gautam all resided in front of Mohit Tent house. According to sources, Dhaniram Gautam, Maniram Gautam and Manju Gautam killed Rahul in an inebriated state by hitting his head with a brick.
The prosecution presented eight witnesses to substantiate their case. Material witness Narendra Singh, an eyewitness, testified that the accused and deceased resided in the same locality, frequently consumed liquor together, and often engaged in altercations. On the intervening night of Nov 25 and 26, 2021, around 00:15, he heard screams and upon reaching the spot, witnessed the accused striking Anuj with bricks, resulting in his immediate death. The ADGC stated that during the trial, prosecution presented the murder weapon and forensic report which confirmed human blood stains on the brick.
Regarding sentencing, the defense pleaded that the accused belonged to an impoverished family with an elderly, ailing mother who lacked any source of livelihood, requesting minimal punishment. The prosecution countered, emphasizing the gravity of murder, advocating maximum punishment.
