Kanpur: The Kanpur Commissionerate police on Thursday evening restructured its
Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe serious cases, replacing the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (Crime) and all four accompanying officers. A new eight-member panel has been formed under the leadership of DCP (East) Satyajit Gupta. The restructuring was prompted by allegations from the accused against the SIT and the increasing number of cases under investigation.
Established approximately five months ago, the SIT was initially headed by the DCP (Crime) and included assistant deputy commissioners of police (ADCP) from crime, central, and law and investigation Unit (LIU).
The team conducted investigations into Akhilesh Dubey advocate and his associates, resulting in filing of the First Information Reports (FIRs) at Barra, Kidwai Nagar, Kotwali, Gwaltoli, and Kalyanpur police stations.
The inquiry revealed involvement of three circle officers, an inspector, and both former and current employees of the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) in dealings with the accused, who have been summoned for statements on Friday and Saturday.
Sources informed that the newly-formed SIT comprises DCP (East) Satyajit Gupta as head, ADCP (South) Yogesh Kumar, ADCP (Headquarters) Archana Singh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Chakeri Abhishek Kumar Pandey, ACP (Cantt) Akanksha Pandey, ACP (Colonelganj), Amit Chaurasia, ACP (Babupurwa) Dilip Kumar Singh, and ACP (Swaroop Nagar) Indra Prakash Singh. "Joint commissioner of police (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar will oversee all investigations, while joint police commissioner (Crime) VK Singh will handle FIR and court-related matters. Both officers are set to submit weekly review reports to the Police Commissioner," the sources added.
