IMD forecasts rise in temperature across Kanpur division in coming days
Kanpur: The India Meteorological Department ( IMD) has indicated that mercury levels are likely to rise further in the coming days, making weather conditions hotter and more uncomfortable across the region.
Temperatures are increasing rapidly across several North and Central Indian states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, resulting in heatwave-like conditions. At the same time, a new Western Disturbance has become active in the hilly regions of North India, increasing the likelihood of strong winds and dust storms across the plains.
Meteorologists have also expressed concern over global sea surface temperatures nearing record levels, raising fears about the possible return of a strong El Niño phenomenon and the occurrence of extreme weather events in the coming months. Researchers believe that if a strong El Niño develops, the year 2027 could surpass 2024 to become the hottest year in the history of modern meteorology.
Residents of Kanpur division experienced hot weather conditions on Sunday. Although the maximum temperature remained marginally lower than Saturday’s reading, people felt increased discomfort due to rising heat levels.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 36.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature stood at 23.8 degrees Celsius, indicating warmer nights ahead. South-eastern winds blew across the division at speeds ranging from 7.5 kmph to 11.3 kmph.
Weather expert S. Sunil Pandey said that the impact of maximum relative humidity, recorded at 64 percent, was somewhat reduced because of the prevailing winds.
According to the latest forecast issued by the IMD, dry weather accompanied by bright sunshine is expected in the Kanpur division on Monday. A gradual increase in daytime temperatures is likely to continue over the next few days.
