IIT-K’s leap towards sustainability

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) hosted the esteemed Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, a distinguished recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards, for the inaugural lecture at its prestigious Kotak School of Sustainability on Thursday. Dr. Joshi, a renowned environmentalist and the visionary founder of the Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO), delivered an insightful lecture titled ‘Balancing Economical Development with Ecology.’
The institute’s accomplished motorsports team showcased their groundbreaking achievement - the first formula student electric vehicle manufactured at IIT-K. Dr. Joshi also interacted with three IIT-K incubated startups - LCB Fertilizers Pvt. Ltd., NovoEarth, and Cycle Spirit Pvt. Ltd.
During his visit, Dr. Joshi interacted with investigators and researchers from the Center of Excellence on Advanced Technologies for Monitoring Air Quality iNdicators (ATMAN) and the Center of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Cities.
Dr Joshi participated in a tree plantation drive at the department of sustainable energy. He was accompanied by professor S. N. Tripathi, dean of Kotak School of Sustainability, and RK Dixit, president of Karmchari Sangathan, IIT Kanpur. Kotak School of Sustainability generously donated 10 saplings.
Director of IIT-K Professor Manindra Agrawal said, “We are deeply honored to host Dr Anil Prakash Joshi for this inaugural lecture at our esteemed Kotak School of Sustainability. His invaluable insights on balancing economic development with ecological preservation are of paramount importance as we strive to educate the next generation of leaders in sustainable practices.” A significant outcome of the event was the articulation of a MoU between the Kotak School of Sustainability, IIT Kanpur, and HESCO.

Nxtra Data Limited, under Bharti Airtel, has released its Sustainability Report for FY 2023-24, showcasing ESG commitments in building sustainable, digitized infrastructure. Aiming for net zero by 2031, Nxtra focuses on innovative clean energy, water, and waste management. It operates Indias largest data center network with 12 large and 120 edge data centers.
