Guv asks students to survey villages adopted by the univs
Kanpur: The villages adopted by universities have started showing changes, said Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel. Speaking at the 40th convocation ceremony of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University on Wednesday Patel urged the students to visit these villages, identify issues, and submit their survey reports to the govt.Patel noted that each university has adopted five villages, and the efforts of students and teachers have significantly transformed both the direction and condition of these communities. She observed that neighbouring areas are becoming more aware of these changes. "I urge students to visit every village. They should conduct surveys and convey the issues to the district magistrate and the state govt through the university vice-chancellor. Universities need to assign this responsibility to their students, who should examine problems like cleanliness, health, and water in the villages," she said. She emphasized that DMs should prepare development plans based on the survey reports. Addressing educational concerns, Patel remarked, "Our biggest problem today is the reluctance to read. If we don't read, how will we learn about our country? We should visit libraries and read books." She added that the goal of the National Education Policy (NEP) is to make 50% of the population highly educated by 2030, but currently, only 30% fall within this scope.Patel mentioned that children delivered an excellent message on the environment during the ceremony and asserted, "Only by working on the environment and sustainability will India become developed." She said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing on small things. We hear about them but don't act." She lauded the efforts being made for women's empowerment, stating, "If women are not educated, how will the country develop?" Highlighting health issues, Patel pointed out that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of cervical cancer patients, with 5 out of 10 women affected. She noted that vaccination efforts have commenced, and CSJMU was working on this for the past two years.During the convocation, degrees were awarded to 1,02,536 students. Patel awarded the university's highest Chancellor's Gold Medal to Komal Kamal, a student from the School of Creative and Performing Arts, who scored 90.52%. Aradhana Tiwari from VSSD College and Jeet Sharma from DWT College received four medals each. Additionally, thirteen campus students and forty-six college students were honoured with medals at the ceremony. The convocation began with a ceremonial procession in the presence of the governor and DRDO Chairman Dr Sameer V Kamat as the chief guest and State higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay, minister of state Rajni Tiwari, and the university VC Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak.
