Kanpur: Under the first phase of Census-2027, the door-to-door house listing and building enumeration exercise commenced in the district on Friday.
From early morning, enumerators fanned out across villages, neighborhoods, and markets. In some places, numbers were inscribed on houses, while in others, details regarding temples, dharamshalas, hotels, and shops were recorded.
As many as 10621 enumerators and supervisors will compile information regarding buildings, and households in every ward and village of the district.
On Friday, prominent religious sites across various areas were also cataloged. The enumerators recorded details of various temples, including the ISKCON Temple and the Kushmanda Temple in Ghatampur. The house listing for the ancient Baneshwar Mahadev Temple—located in Gandhi Nagar ward of the Ghatampur Municipal Council—was also conducted in accordance with the prescribed format.
District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh stated that the self-enumeration phase has concluded, and enumerators are now visiting households to collect information in accordance with the prescribed format. He appealed to the residents of the district to cooperate with the enumerators and provide the requested information accurately.
He stated that, in the first phase of the census, buildings are being enumerated. In this process, a total of 33 types of information will be recorded, including the status of the building, its usage, drinking water, toilets, electricity, cooking fuel, and available amenities.
In this phase, details regarding temples, dharamshalas, hotels, shops, and other institutions are being compiled alongside residential buildings.
Subsequently, in February 2027, the enumeration of individuals will be conducted as part of the second phase. All enumerators and supervisors will carry authorized identity cards.
Additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Vivek Chaturvedi stated that the census serves as the foundation for the country’s development plans. He urged citizens to provide accurate and factual information to the enumerators. He also stated that the information sought during the census is kept strictly confidential, and no individual is asked for their bank account details, OTP, or other financial information.
