Climate action, energy conservation in focus at IIT-K meet
Kanpur: The academic and career council (PG) of IIT-Kanpur in collaboration with Vigyan Bharati and Student Gymkhana organised an interactive climate awareness workshop under the Bharat Climate Satyagrah Yatra on campus.
The nationwide campaign is being led by noted environmentalist and “Solar Man of India” Chetan Singh Solanki. The 100-day yatra aims to spread awareness on climate responsibility and sustainable living while covering more than 5,800 kilometres across 51 cities.
The event at IIT Kanpur focused on climate action, energy conservation and sustainable practices. It was organised under the leadership of Animesh Kumar Soni, General Secretary of the Academic and Career Council (PG), along with members of the council and representatives of Vigyan Bharati and Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Kanpur.
The programme began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony followed by addresses from dignitaries including Prof. SSK Iyer of IIT Kanpur, Shivam Trivedi, Joint Secretary of Vigyan Bharati, and Ravish Chandra Pandey, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Kanpur.
Students participated in interactive discussions and question-answer sessions on climate change, sustainable consumption and environmental responsibility. Organisers said the initiative aimed to motivate students and citizens to adopt environmentally conscious lifestyles.
The highlight of the programme was a 150-minute workshop conducted by Prof. Solanki, who shared insights on climate mitigation strategies, renewable energy adoption and the importance of reducing overconsumption.
Prof. Solanki was later felicitated by Prof. Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary, faculty advisor of the council, along with student representatives and organisers for his contribution to environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kaustubh Omar of Vigyan Bharati.
