14-yr-old girl among 2 killed as coal-laden truck runs amok in Kannauj
Three others were critically injured in the accident
Kanpur: Two persons, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed and three others critically injured after a speeding coal-laden truck went out of control and caused a devastating accident at Bhaulpur Tiraha in Chhibramau Kotwali area of Kannauj district on Sunday morning.The deceased were identified as Anshika (14), a resident of Durga Nagar, and Kanhaiyalal (65), a fruit vendor from Bhawalpur. Anshika, a high school student, was on her way to coaching class, when the incident occurred.According to reports, the truck first hit Anshika’s scooter from behind near the intersection around 8.30am, dragging her under the vehicle and later crashed into a roadside shop and overturned.As the coal-laden truck toppled, fruit vendor Kanhaiyalal, his two sons Ankit and Amit, and a helper, Adarsh Pal, were trapped underneath along with a heap of coal. Locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police.Rescue operations were carried out using a JCB and crane to remove the truck and debris. While fruit vendor Kanhaiyalal was found dead, his two sons were rescued in critical condition and rushed to the district hospital. The 14-year-old girl also succumbed to injuries. Police sent both the bodies for postmortem.DM Ashutosh Mohan Agnihotri along with ADM Devendra Kumar and ASP Ajay Kumar reached the hospital and reviewed treatment arrangements for the injured.
The DM said Kanhaiyalal, a sharecropper, would be covered under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Yojana, under which his family will receive financial assistance of Rs5 lakh. A similar amount will also be provided to the deceased student’s family.
