‘Need smart policing to tackle new age crimes’

Jodhpur: Governor Kalraj Mishra said on Monday policing now needs to be smart to keep pace with new age crimes that criminals are indulging in by adopting new technologies which the police lack. As chancellor, Mishra was presiding over the third convocation ceremony of Sardar Patel Police Security and Criminal Justice University. “Amid competition and global challenges, the police university needs to make its curricula timely, useful, and up-to-date. Additionally, the university must make research in areas such as policing, internal security, cyber security, forensic science, effective from both academic quality and social utility perspectives,” he said.He called upon the university to work as a ‘think tank’ for crime prevention, conduct excellent research in various disciplines related to criminal science, and provide effective police education. He emphasised that the university should become a major centre for innovation in the teaching of criminal science, both nationally and internationally.He added that the university should include the new criminal laws in its curricula along with the new curricula for police forces under criminal science, police science, and forensic science based on current contexts and specific cases related to crime.Besides regular under graduate and post graduate degrees for sessions 2022 and 2023, 10 students were given gold medals. For the first time, six PhD degrees were also given.
