Jodhpur: The local administration on Thursday demolished the house of a man accused of murder in Lamba village near Jodhpur after it was found that structure was built on government land. This is the first time an accused’s house was demolished in Jodhpur.
The accused, Anil Bishnoi, along with an accomplice, Sahil, had allegedly stabbed to death a woman, Anjali Devi, in her house on December 23 night last year and left her two daughters, including an infant, seriously injured after being caught stealing in the house.
SP (Jodhpur Rural) Dharmendra Yadav said both the accused were arrested instantly after a case was registered against them under various sections of IPC. The victim’s older daughter had identified the accused and informed a family member, who had rushed to the spot and informed police, said Yadav.
The murder had triggered strong resentment in the village against both the accused, and villagers had complained that the house of Bishnoi was built on pastureland illegally, he added.
“The administration verified the complaint and issued a notice seeking removal of the encroachment. Since it was not complied with, a decision was taken to raze the house,” said Yadav, adding that police assisted the administration in the demolition carried out on Thursday.
Police are obtaining the details of the property of the other accused, Sahil, for similar action, if needed. “This action is a message from us that those involved in crime and hooliganism will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Such antisocial elements will be identified and subjected to strict action,” said Yadav.
