NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday came up with the new guidelines for the Indian Premier League mega auction later this year, giving franchises the option of retaining up to six players. However the googly that the board threw in -- 5 retentions + 1 RTM -- is the price at which the six retentions will come. The rule might force most of the franchises to go up to a maximum of three retentions.Amid the chatter around the new auction guidelines, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that Mumbai Indians should not retain skipper Hardik Pandya and instead get him via the Right to Match card.Jadeja feels that Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav should be definitely retained and skipper Hardik can be taken from the RTM card in the auction. "I'd say, players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, are undoubtedly the three players who will be retained by MI. It is impossible to get these players if put up for auction," Jadeja said on Jio Cinema."Moreover, I think that MI can use their RTM card for Hardik Pandya. Yes, the kind of player he is, you might not get him either (in the auction). But there is a chance that his injury tendencies might make the other franchises not be able to open up their banks for him."If you have an RTM, you can use to their advantage. I am not saying that this decides the player's caliber or power, but if you look at a player like Bumrah and his value and then Hardik Pandya on the market, it will be a difficult business," Jadeja added.
Under Hardik's captaincy, the five-time champions finished last in the last edition of the league. In the IPL governing council meeting, it was also decided that the purse of the franchises for the auction will be increased to Rs 120 crore.
