Widows of Pulwama martyrs seek euthanasia, say govt ignoring them

Jaipur: Manju Jat, Sundari Devi and Madhubala, widows of army officers martyred in Pulwama terror attack, have been staging protest for the past five days. On Saturday they sought permission from governor Kalraj Mishra for euthanasia citing neglect from the state government. They have been staging a sit-in since February 28 - two days outside the state assembly and three days at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur. They were accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena who is supporting the protest since its beginning.The three widows’ letter reads, “Our husbands sacrificed their lives to protect the motherland. The state government, instead of fulfilling the announcements made in honour of their martyrdom, is repeatedly humiliating their families.” Meena charged the Jaipur police with showing no sensitivity by misbehaving with them while they were heading towards the chief minister’s residence.“The ill-treatment of martyrs’ widows by police speaks volumes about the Gehlot administration and the CM Ashok Gehlot who claims to be a true Gandhian. Manju Jat, wife of martyr Rohitashwa Lamba, was injured and had to be admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital,” said Meena.He said that CM Gehlot not meeting the widows despite their repeated pleas was shameful and showed disregard for the martyrs.
