Jaipur: Rugby was formally introduced on Sunday at the Union Football Club Jaipur (Trust), one of the oldest sporting institutions in the country, established in 1889. Club Coordinator and Trustee Abhinav Swami informed that Union Football Club is expanding its sports training programmes and has now included rugby among its regular sporting activities.
The rugby competition was inaugurated at Club Ground No. 2, Ramniwas Bagh, Jaipur, in the presence of club office-bearers and representatives of the Rajasthan Rugby Association. A total of 8 boys’ teams and 5 girls’ teams from Jaipur participated in the competition. Exciting matches of Touch Rugby and Tackle Rugby were conducted as part of the event.
Black Panther bagged the double crown in the senior section. Shaurya Janani Foundation in the boys and hosts Union Rugby Club in the girls emerged champions.
On this occasion, Union Football Club President Lokesh Kumar Singh ‘Sahil’, Vice President Anil Sharma, Secretary Mahipal Swami, Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, RK Bhatt, Treasurer Yogini Bhavya Rajawat, Rajasthan Touch Rugby and BJP Yuva Morcha State President Shankar Gaura, Vice President of the Physical Education Association and President of Dausa District Touch Rugby Association Jagdish Gopal Guru Sharma, Chaina Ram, Rajasthan Rugby officials Shyam Singh Rajawat, Digvijay Singh, Pankaj Saini, Ashish, Dilip Singh and Tarun Panwar graced the function.
International handball player Akshay Raj Singh Rathore, RL Lamba, kabaddi Coach Raj Narain Sharma, Founder of Pratishtha School Institution Arpita Mathur, Founders of Human Glory Foundation Pramod Jain and Manisha Jain, Rajasthan Bar Council Chairman Rajeev Sogarwal, Prerak Swami, Pallavi Jain, Ground In-charge Gaurav Ji, 94-year-old Gopal Krishna Telangana, Praveen Sharma, along with hundreds of players, parents, and sports enthusiasts, were also present on the occasion.
It is noteworthy that through Union Football Club, Ramniwas Bagh is once again emerging as a sports hub.
