Jaipur: Rajasthan United FC kicked off their Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 campaign with a determined 1-1 draw against Shillong Lajong FC at the SSA Football Stadium at Shillong on Sunday.
Playing their season opener away from home, Rajasthan United faced a spirited challenge from the hosts. After trailing at halftime, the Desert Warriors displayed strong resilience and tactical discipline in the second half.
The equaliser came through Abhishek Ambekar, who found the back of the net with a composed finish to secure a valuable point in the 52nd minute of the game.
The result marks a positive start to the campaign, highlighting the team's character and fighting spirit in difficult away conditions.
The RUFC chairman KK Tak was pleased with the team's show.
"Beginning the season away from home is never easy, especially in a competitive environment like Shillong. I am proud of the team's determination and composure in the second half. Securing a point in the opener gives us confidence and sets the tone for the journey ahead."
The RUFC head coach Vikrant Sharma praised Abhishek for his equaliser.
"It was a competitive match against a quality opponent. The players showed great response after halftime, and Abhishek's goal was the reward for our persistence. While there are areas we will continue to improve, taking a point from the first match is a solid foundation to build upon."
Rajasthan United FC will now turn their focus to the upcoming fixture against Aizawl FC which is scheduled for March 6 as they aim to build momentum in the IFL 2025-26 season.
