Parents seek action as over 1L RTE students await admissions
Jaipur: Parents of students selected under the Right to Education (RTE) protested at Shiksha Sankul in Jaipur Thursday, claiming that over 1 lakh children have yet to receive their admissions for the current academic year.
They have issued a 10-day ultimatum to the education department to resolve the issue, threatening to start a hunger strike if their demands are not met.
The Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh, a body of aggrieved parents in the state, while protesting, said that the Right to Education Act has effectively been reduced to mere paperwork.
“On one hand, the govt makes claims such as ‘Education for All’; on the other, admission process is not being completed for students selected under RTE. Private schools are openly flouting the rules, exerting pressure on parents, and demanding additional documents and fees, while the education department remains a mere spectator to this situation,” said Abhishek Jain Bittu, spokesperson of the association.
The association on Thursday said that parents will launch an agitation, including sit-ins, demonstrations and an accountability campaign across the state if admission process is not completed.
The association has demanded that all selected students be granted admission with immediate effect; that strict punitive action be initiated against private schools found to be flouting the regulations; and that the accountability of district education officers and other concerned officials be firmly established in case they do not act on complaints.
