Modi’s remarks show his ‘moral bankruptcy’: Gehlot
Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments against the Congress at a public meeting in Ajmer as "political desperation" and a reflection of his "moral bankruptcy". Gehlot called it ironic that those "whose ideology did not contribute to the freedom movement" were accusing the Congress of dividing the country.Modi said at the Ajmer gathering Saturday that the country would "never forgive" the Congress for its "misdeeds". He claimed the Congress was suffering repeated defeats in elections and therefore "defaming India" out of anger. He also said Congress had become from "INC" to "MMC"—"Muslim League Maoist Congress".
In a sharp response posted on ‘X', Gehlot said, "Modi ji, remember that opposing you is not the same as opposing the country. Do not make the mistake of considering yourself greater than the nation. It is sad that you used an official govt platform for narrow politics. The public expected you to speak on issues of public interest.""The people of Rajasthan know the truth. Instead of playing politics over paper leaks, you should have praised that stringent law of Rajasthan which includes provisions such as life imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10 crore, and the confiscation of the culprits' property, which became an example for the country," he added.Gehlot further said it would have been better if the PM stood by his guarantee given during the Assembly elections not to shut down the Congress govt's schemes. "This is because your hollow slogan of ‘Double Engine', which is proving to be ‘Double Zero' in Rajasthan," he said.
