Jaisalmer: Police have set up checkpoints across Barmer city to apprehend Karanaram, grandson of the sarpanch of Rawatsar, Tikuram, for allegedly opening fire from a pistol at advocate Karan Saran, whose parents, Antaridevi and Manaram, are former sarpanchs of Rawatsar.
The incident took place on Sunday evening when the Scorpio vehicle in which Karanaram was travelling along with 3-4 other men collided with a Thar vehicle that had Saran on board. Karanaram allegedly took out a pistol and fired at Saran, who suffered a bullet injury to his thigh. Karanaram and his companions fled the scene immediately in their vehilce. Locals transported Saran to the district hospital.
Deputy SP Ramesh Sharma said the attack appeared to be rooted in a lonngstanding rivalry between the two families. Senior police officials, including SP Narendra Singh Meena, deputy SP Ramesh Sharma, city inspector Lekhraj Siyag, and Roko station in-charge Manoj Kumar, arrived at the scene to investigate.
