Indian Army conducts high-intensity firepower exercise at Rajasthan's Pokaran, displays rocket and artillery strength

JAISALMER: Amid rapidly evolving global dynamics and rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Indian Army continues to enhance and validate its combat readiness through high-intensity firepower exercises. Demonstrating its strike capabilities, the Army recently carried out a major firepower exercise at the Pokaran Field Firing Range.

A key highlight of the exercise was the display of rocket and artillery firepower. Systems such as the BM-21 Grad and the indigenous Pinaka were deployed to demonstrate their precision.




The BM-21 system, mounted on truck-based launchers with 40 barrels, fired a full salvo of 40 rockets within 20 seconds, successfully destroying simulated enemy targets. With an operational range of approximately 0.5 to 45 kilometres and the ability to carry various warheads, the system proved its versatility in different combat scenarios.

India’s upgraded version, the BM-21/LRAR, further enhances reliability and firepower, making it a formidable asset on the modern battlefield.

An Army official said the exercise was led by the gunners of the Konark Corps, who showcased strong operational preparedness and coordination. Over several days, troops carried out rigorous training drills under simulated battlefield conditions in harsh desert terrain, improving their responsiveness, accuracy and tactical efficiency.

He added that the coordinated firing missions executed by the Corps’ rocketeers highlighted the Army’s ability to deliver rapid and precise strikes.

Titled “Blazing Steel, Decisive Impact – Battlefield Thunder”, the exercise also highlighted the integration of advanced technology with traditional artillery strength.

Senior military officials observing the drill stressed the importance of such exercises in maintaining high combat readiness, especially in desert warfare environments like Pokaran, known for its vast and strategically significant terrain.

Beyond showcasing firepower, the exercise reinforced discipline, coordination and technical excellence among troops. The performance of the soldiers demonstrated that the Indian Army remains fully prepared to respond to emerging threats.

The successful execution of this large-scale exercise reflects the Army’s continued focus on operational readiness and national security in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
