Jaipur: It was a dream debut for Rajat Baghel as the teenage opener smashed 145 to provide Rajasthan a strong start against Assam on Day 1 of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy U-23 Elite match at the KL Saini Stadium here on Friday.
Rajasthan, who were asked to bat first, reached 212 for 3 on the truncated day due to early morning rain.
Although the hosts lost two wickets -- opener Sumit Godara (11) and captain Rohan Rajbhar (1) -- cheaply, Rajat (145: 184b, 23x4, 3x6) and Raj Sharma put the innings back on track with a big 180-run partnership for the third wicket.
When the stumps were drawn on Day 1, Raj Sharma was batting on 52 (99b, 9x4) while giving him company was night-watchman Ganesh Suthar (0).
Both Rajat Baghel and Raj Sharma did well in the Cooch Behar U-19 Trophy earlier.
Brief Scores
Rajasthan 212/3 in 56 overs (Rajat Baghel 145, Raj Sharma 52*, Sumit Godara 11; Harsh Kumar 2-58, Sumit Kashyap 1-15) vs Assam.
