Asst engr, contract worker arrested for taking ₹20,000 bribe in Tonk
Bhilwara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Friday arrested an assistant engineer of the electricity department and a contract worker in Tonk for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a consumer.
The accused were identified as Navneet Singh Gurjar, assistant engineer with Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL), and Mohammad Shajim, a computer operator working on contract.
Tonk ACB additional superintendent of police Rishikesh Meena said the complainant approached the bureau on June 4, alleging that an electricity department team removed a meter from his house after inspecting it. The complainant claimed that Gurjar threatened to register a vigilance case and demanded Rs 25,000 to settle the matter and return the meter. Following negotiations, the alleged bribe amount was reduced to Rs 20,000.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap Friday. Investigators said Gurjar directed the complainant to hand over the money to Shajim. The complainant allegedly gave Rs 20,000 to Shajim, who accepted the cash and kept it in his trouser pocket.
The ACB team recovered the money and arrested Shajim on the spot. Gurjar was subsequently taken into custody.
A case was registered against both accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
