Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has suspended two junior assistants for allegedly failing to report for duties related to the first phase of Census 2027, officials said on Saturday.The action was taken against Pankaj Jat, posted in the Assembly Cell and Rambabu Sharma from the office superintendent branch. Both employees were assigned to the Hawa Mahal-Amer zone under an order issued on June 3 for house listing and housing enumeration work, which forms the opening stage of the upcoming census exercise.According to JMC, neither employee joined the assigned duty despite being officially deployed for the task. Following their absence, JMC initiated disciplinary proceedings under the Rajasthan Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1958.Separate orders issued by JMC commissioner Om Kasera stated that the employees’ failure to join census work amounted to negligence of official duties, prompting disciplinary action. Both officials have been placed under suspension with immediate effect under Rule 13(1) of the service rules.Officials said census-related assignments are treated as mandatory govt duty, and employees deputed for the exercise are expected to report as directed. The corporation maintained that any lapse in carrying out such responsibilities would be dealt with strictly under service rules.
