JAIPUR: Sixteen people were injured Saturday night after an out-of-control car rammed into a group of relatives dancing behind a DJ during a traditional wedding procession in the Bassi area of Jaipur district.
Police said the accident occurred around 9 pm near the NDPC turn in Bassi when nearly 50 people gathered for the customary ceremony, in which relatives carry gifts and offerings to the bride's family ahead of a wedding. The group travelled from Jamwaramgarh and was heading towards Maliyon Ki Dhani while dancing and singing along with music played on a DJ system.

Investigators said a car belonging to the same group was moving slowly behind the DJ trolley as the procession made its way along the road. According to police, the driver allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to suddenly pick up speed and crash into people dancing ahead of it.
The car ploughed through the crowd, knocking several participants to the ground and triggering panic at the spot. Eyewitnesses said screams and cries broke out immediately after the vehicle rammed into the gathering, with family members rushing to pull the injured away from the road.
Relatives and bystanders initially helped the injured before informing the police. A team from Bassi police station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and assisted in shifting the injured to hospital.
Sixteen were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors later referred seven of them to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for further care. Police said most of the injured suffered minor injuries, though 1 woman sustained a fracture in her leg and is reported to be in serious condition.
Officials said all the injured are undergoing treatment and their condition is being monitored by doctors.
Police added that no formal complaint was filed in connection with the accident so far. Officers said they are verifying details of the incident and recorded statements from witnesses present at the scene.
