Khandu meets Javadekar, seeks education reforms

ITANAGAR: Chief minister of

Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu

has requested the Union ministry of human resource development (HRD) to change the funding pattern of six model degree colleges to a 90:10 ratio as per the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) programme.

The minister asked his secretary to put up a cabinet note immediately for the same, official sources said here on Thursday. He assured Khandu the issue will be taken up soon. He also agreed to establish model degree colleges under RUSA as proposed by the state government.

Drawing attention of the Union minister to the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Khandu reminded him that the Centre had accepted the state government's proposal to enhance salaries of contractual teachers under RMSA to bring them at par with that of

SSA

teachers.

He requested the minister to enhance the salary of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) to Rs 26,453 per month under RMSA and said the state government is ready to issue a notification in this regard. The HRD ministry agreed to the proposal. Highlighting the issue of salary release under SSA/KGBV, maintenance and stipend for the year 2015-16 which has been pending with the ministry, Javedekar directed the secretary concerned to address the issue promptly. He also said the first instalment of SSA will be released soon.

The chief minister also requested the withdrawal of the no detention policy under the new examination system mandated in tune with comprehensive and continuous evaluation under the RTE Act, 2009.

The chief minister was accompanied by the state's principal secretary Jitendra Narayan Singh during the meeting, sources added.
