Youth injured in b’day celebratory firing

Indore: A birthday celebration in Alot town of Ratlam district ended in violence after a celebratory gunshot from a licensed weapon struck an 18-year-old neighbouring youth on Monday night.The incident took place around 9.30 pm in the Pramilaganj area. Alot police station in-charge Munendra Gautam said the accused, Shyam Nayak, works as a security guard at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain. He came home to celebrate his birthday when the incident took place. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the firing occurred.During the celebration, Nayak fired his licensed gun in what was intended as a celebratory shot. However, the bullet travelled forward instead of into the air and hit Rohit, who was standing nearby house. The pellets struck both of his calves, leaving him injured. After receiving information, police reached the spot and shifted Rohit to a private hospital for treatment. The accused, Nayak, was taken into custody and is being questioned. His medical examination was also conducted as part of the investigation.
