Indore: Water demand in Pithampur, the state's largest industrial belt, and other industrial areas in Indore region has increased by around 5 million litres per day (MLD). The total requirement has now increased to 55 MLD.
The rise is largely driven by fresh demand from new industrial clusters, including Mohana industrial area and the Smart Industrial Township in Sector 7, where units have either started operations or are in advanced stages of commissioning.
Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation executive director Himanshu Prajapati said the increase reflects industrial expansion in the region."The additional demand is coming from new industrial areas such as Mohana and Sector 7. We are ensuring that supply is maintained as per requirement across all industrial belts," he said.
MPIDC supplies water to industries across notified industrial areas in the region, with total demand during summer reaching about 55 MLD, compared to around 45 MLD in winter months.
Industry representatives said the rise in demand is also linked to expansion activity in Pithampur, with new units adding to consumption levels.
Gautam Kothari of Pithampur Audyogik Sangathan said, "With new units coming up in areas like Sector 7 and Mohana, water demand has increased. During peak summer, supply tends to drop in several pockets, forcing industries to rely on tanker water to maintain operations. Continuous and assured supply is critical for production cycles."
Officials said the current requirement is being met through NVDA sources, while supply from Sanjay water reservoir and Karam dam remains limited during the season.
MPIDC is constructing new ground storage reservoirs, an elevated service reservoir, and a dedicated feeder for uninterrupted power supply to water systems.
