Indore: A major tragedy was averted in Banganga area on Monday evening after the first-floor roof of a under-construction building collapsed, trapping two workers under debris. The timely intervention of local residents, Banganga police and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) ensured both men were pulled out alive.
The incident occurred around 7pm at a G+1 house in Bhavani Nagar. Officials said the house owner initiated dismantling work. The work was awarded to a local contractor. During the process, a section of the roof and a supporting pillar suddenly gave way. Two brothers, identified as 25-year-old Satish Thakre and 22-year-old Sonu Thakre, both residents of Dewas district, were trapped under the falling concrete and iron rods.
The sound of the collapse drew immediate attention from neighbours, who rushed to help. Banganga police arrived shortly after and alongside the locals, managed to take out the trapped brothers.
IMC additional commissioner Prakhar Singh said that the rescue operation was completed within over 30 minutes of the initial report. "Both individuals were successfully rescued and rushed to Aurobindo Hospital for treatment.
Their condition was reported to be stable," Singh stated.
While the exact cause is under investigation, initial reports suggest that the structural integrity was compromised during the dismantling of the lower sections. The IMC team remained at the site to assess the safety of the remaining structure and the surrounding buildings.
Banganga police are investigating whether proper safety protocols were followed during the high-risk demolition work in the residential colony or not..
