Indore: Two men were arrested by Indore crime branch allegedly for possessing MD drugs worth around Rs 5.5 lakh. The police team seized 53.57 grams contraband during a field check near Rajkumar vegetable market.Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said acting on inputs, the crime branch team spotted two suspects on a motorcycle along the roadside. The duo appeared nervous on seeing the police, prompting officials to stop and question them. During questioning, they gave inconsistent replies, raising suspicion. A subsequent search led to recovery of 53.57 grams MD from a transparent packet in their possession.The accused, Tohid Khan and Rakhman Qureshi, residents of Nagjhiri in Ujjain had studied up to Class 12. While Tohid worked as a labourer, Rakhman was employed at a private garment factory.During questioning, the accused admitted they procured the drug at lower rates and supplied it to addicts in Indore at higher prices to make quick profits. A case was registered against them under the NDPS Act at the crime branch police station.Police also seized two mobile phones and the motorcycle used by the accused, taking the total value of recovered items to around Rs 7 lakh.Officials said the crime branch has intensified action against narcotics networks in the city, registering 19 cases under the NDPS Act since Jan 1 this year and arresting 37 accused so far.
