Ujjain: Three men died and one was critically injured when a car they were travelling in was hit head-on by a loaded truck on Ujjain-Nagda road on Tuesday.
The four occupants of the car were friends and were on their way to Sanwariya Ji temple for darshan when the accident occurred near village Goyala, after toll plaza.
Due to collision, the car was completely mangled while front portion of the truck was also damaged severely. Bhairugadh police reached the spot and a crane was used to separate the two vehicles.
All four were rushed to hospital, where two — Devendra, and Kailash alias Rinku, both residents of Abdalpur — were declared dead. The other two, Pravesh Sharma of Indira Nagar and Suresh Navalani of Sindhi Colony, were shifted to a private hospital in a serious condition.
By evening, Suresh Navalani also succumbed to his injuries. His body was taken to Charak Hospital for a postmortem examination, which was scheduled for Wednesday morning. Pravesh Sharma remained critical and was being treated at a local private hospital.
The truck driver left the vehicle at the accident spot and fled. Bhairugadh police station in-charge Shailendra Pratap Singh Rajawat said that the driver was being traced based on the vehicle's registration number. A case has been registered.
