Indore: Three new teams—Malwa Stallions, Ujjain Falcons and Royal Nimar Eagles—will join Madhya Pradesh League this season, taking the total number of franchises to 10 and marking the league's first major expansion since its launch.
Started in 2024, the MPL, the state's only cricketing league, has completed two editions, both held in Gwalior. The third season will now be staged in Indore, immediately after the IPL 2026 season, giving the tournament a new venue and wider visibility.
Last season, the league featured seven teams: Indore Pink Panthers, Rewa Jaguars, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Bhopal Wolves, Gwalior Cheetahs, Bundelkhand Bulls and Chambal Ghariyals.
With the addition of teams representing Malwa, Nimar and Ujjain, the competition is set to see stronger regional presence and new rivalries.
The new franchises are also focusing on building squads with a long-term approach. "We are very excited to be owners of an MPL team. With our educational programmes, we are trying to provide a platform to youth from different sections of society. MPL is a similar platform where unseen talent from smaller towns and villages can come forward," said Royal Nimar Eagles team owner Siddharth Chaturvedi.
In preparation for the season, the teams have begun talent hunt and development programmes across different parts of the state. The aim is to identify and groom players who can represent their regions at the league level.
Malwa Stallions team owner Megha Rajak said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the state's cricket culture. "Malwa Stallions is more than just a cricket franchise. It reflects our commitment to the sporting culture of Madhya Pradesh. We want young cricketers from small towns to believe they can compete at the highest level. Through this team, we aim to create opportunities and build a strong connection with fans," she said.
With three new teams, a shift to Indore and a broader talent pool, the upcoming MPL season is expected to bring a more competitive and regionally diverse tournament.
