Barwani: Mild tremors were felt in Anjad and Sendhwa towns of Barwani district on Wednesday afternoon, creating a brief sense of panic among residents.
The tremors were reported at around 12:48 pm, when people suddenly felt the ground shake. According to official sources, the earthquake measured approximately 3.6 on the Richter scale, while the observatory in Barwani recorded a magnitude of 3.4.
Barwani in-charge ADM Sohan Kanas said that reports of tremors were received from Sendhwa and nearby areas. He said that there have been no reports of any loss of life or property so far.
A resident of Sendhwa's Sudama Colony, Ratnesh Jain, said that he was watching television on the first floor of his house when he felt the tremors. His wife, Monika, who was in the kitchen at the time, also experienced the shaking. A local businessman, Girish Goyal, reported hearing a loud sound during the incident.
Tremors were also clearly felt in Mohipura village under Anjad police station limits. Villagers said the shaking lasted for about 2 to 5 seconds, prompting many to rush out of their homes in fear. Lokendra Singh Tomar, a resident, said he was asleep when a sudden jolt woke him up, after which he immediately stepped outside and checked with others.
Several people reported seeing household items such as utensils, fans, and furniture shaking during the tremor.
The earthquake was also confirmed by Indira Sagar Power Station's seismic observatory at Barwani and the National Centre for Seismology. The seismometer installed at the district headquarters recorded a magnitude of 3.4.
The earthquake's epicentre was located at 21.868° North and 74.790° East at a depth of 10km.
